Off-Duty Officer Employment

It is the policy of the Murfreesboro Police Department to allow commissioned law enforcement employees to work in an outside police related employment (moonlighting) capacity under specific guidelines set forth by the City of Murfreesboro and the Murfreesboro Police Department.

All outside employment request should be made using the Application for Permission Off Duty Employment form which can be found in the link below. All forms must be completed and turned in to the Office of Professional Responsibility located at 302 South Church Street Murfreesboro, TN 37130 by mail or in person only. If you have any questions, you may contact Lieutenant Gary Carter or Sergeant Craig Snider or by calling 615-849-2686. All requests should be turned in five (5) business days prior to the event. All requests are reviewed and approved on a case by case bases. The number of officers needed and the use of a patrol car for any off duty event, is at the discretion of the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Officers are paid $35.00 dollars per hour with a minimum of four (4) hours per event. All money is paid directly to the officer. Officers should be paid at the end of the event, unless prior arraignments have been made between the payee and the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility.

No Murfreesboro Police Officer may work any police related off duty employment located outside the corporate city limits of the City of Murfreesboro.
