Special Total Solar Eclipse edition of ‘Adventures in Murphry’s Burrow’

All anyone can talk about is the solar eclipse on Aug. 21—the first total solar eclipse to sweep across the entire United States in decades. In this month’s episode of “Adventures in Murphry’s Burrow,” Murph learns a great deal about the upcoming event. From scientists to students, Murph visits people to discuss facts and terms regarding the eclipse.

The August episode of “Adventures in Murphry’s Burrow” features:
• Murph learns all about the solar eclipse that is set to take place August 21.
• Murph visits with Dr. Ron Henderson of MTSU’s Physics and Astronomy Department.
• Later in the episode, Murph and John take a trip to visit the Naked Eye Observatory on MTSU’s campus.
• Discussion takes place about the difference between the terms “revolve” and “rotate.”
• Murph learns some facts about the upcoming solar eclipse.

The Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department will hold a solar viewing event at Richard Siegel Park, 515 Cherry Lane, in North Murfreesboro, Monday, Aug. 21.  Solar viewing glasses will be provided on a first-come, first serve basis. The anticipated 1-minute, 5-second total solar eclipse — weather permitting — is at approximately 1:30 p.m.  The event is free for all ages and no registration is required.

Middle Tennessee State University will host the Great Tennessee Eclipse from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 21 in the green space along the Science Corridor of Innovation in the heart of campus. Live music on stage, live NASA and MTSU telescope feeds, solar eclipse education, safety tips, science building tours and more will be on the agenda. Linebaugh Public Library will celebrate science with a fun, hands-on experience, Aug. 21 beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the City Plaza, 105 W. Vine St.

Murph is an inquisitive rabbit who visits unique and interesting people and places in Murfreesboro and interviews guests that visit his burrow. When you’re with Murph in the Burrow, its one big adventure after another.
