  1. Bioretention – Lessons Learned 10 Years later

    Come learn about the maintenance of bioretention, including rain gardens! Josh Hayes, MS4 Permit Group Manager with Metro Nashville, will present some of the lessons learned from Nashville’s 10 years of implementing bioretention and provide tips on performing up-front cost saving maintenance. Metro Nashville’s stormwater management program started allowing and promoting the use of Low Impact Development (LID) practices to permanently treat stormwater runoff from developed and redeveloped properties for around 10 years now. While there are a wide array of LID practices approved for stormwater management, bioretention basins (rain gardens), by far, have been the most widely used LID practice. In monitoring the long-term functionality of these basins, Metro Nashville has observed a wide array of results, which can all be tied to how well these structures are properly maintained. Talk presented in collaboration with the City of Murfreesboro.
