STARS Award

The City of Murfreesboro is proud to announce the launch of the STARS employee recognition and reward program.  STARS represents our employees who “Succeed Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence.”

The City Council has identified four core service values: treat customers with respect; exceed standards that customers expect; deliverService Excellence STARS logo value and quality service; and, provide convenience and one-stop shopping. STARS takes one more step toward recognizing those that embody these core service values.

STARS Recognition Program

"The City of Murfreesboro is implementing a new recognition program geared to engage our employees by motivating our workforce through recognition of contributions made through service excellence," said Jim Crumley, Assistant City Manager. "We are excited about the impact STARS will have on encouraging everyday service excellence in our organization."

STARS is a new initiative designed to drive and enforce the ideals set forth in the Service Excellence program by building a culture of service and recognition that acknowledges the value employees add to the City through their many outstanding customer service interactions. STARS is intended to recognize employees that are nominated from outside of the organization, as well as encourage peer-to-peer recognition that celebrates outstanding performance and the contributions that matter every day.

"The City’s employees are great at providing customer support at all levels, and the City Council and I recognize that a reward and recognition program delivers the motivation needed to maintain that level of support," said Rob Lyons, City Manager.

Employees or teams may be nominated for the award by other City employees, by the general public, community members, etc.   Here's how:

The guidelines for eligibility and the timing of such awards are outlined in the STARS Employee Recognition Program Rules and Procedures for Fiscal Year 2013, which has been provided to each department for review and is available by clicking the preceeding link. Also, the STARS program was added as Section 1038 to the City’s Employee handbook.  The policy details the rewards which are to be received. Each month, one employee or possibly a team of employees will be publicly recognized for their achievements.

Find the STARS Nomination Application here.  Now it's easier than ever.  Just complete the nomination application online and click "Nominate" to submit your nomination to Service Excellence Coordination Shannon Logan.  Nomination applications for the program are due no later than the last business day of the month to be considered for that month’s award.  The decision on the award will be announced by the 10th day of the following month.
