Solid Waste Department
The Murfreesboro Solid Waste Department is responsible for your garbage and yard waste collection. Together, we work hard to help make your neighborhood look as pleasing as possible. We'll provide residents with a free 96-gallon garbage cart and we will empty it once per week along with a second if you purchase it from the city by calling 893-3681.
Additionally, we collect your limbs and brush in a timely fashion. We are also able to divert a tremendous volume from going to the landfill by mulching your yard waste. This mulch is available to you free of charge at the city's mulch site on Florence Road.
Garbage Collection
The City of Murfreesboro provides a 96-gallon cart to each single family household free of charge. It is picked up once per week. Murfreesboro residents pay for Solid Waste services through local taxes so there is no monthly bill for service.
The Solid Waste Department can be reached at 615-893-3681. It's address is 4765 Florence Rd. and the office hours are 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, except when on holiday schedule. The department director is Joey Smith and messages can be left after hours.
The city's convenience center is located at 648 West Main St. Its hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and recycling (cardboard, plastics and metals) is available.
Existing homes should already have carts assigned to them but for new homes, please call Solid Waste and a cart will be delivered to that address.
Apartment complexes will usually notify residents of waste disposal options.
The solid waste department reminds you of the following tips to help us serve you better:
- Place your garbage cart on the street before 7 a.m. of your collection day.
- Please be a good neighbor and remove your cart as soon as possible that same day.
- A copy of the city's revised solid waste ordinance is available.
Holiday pickup routes
Your garbage collection day may change from time to time due to holidays observed by City employees. Here is the schedule for upcoming holidays. Please call the office at 893-3681 for more information.
