Fundraiser Car Washes

Car washes are a way of raising money for a good cause. Unfortunately they can have a negative impact on surrounding water ways. Techniques exist that ensure the wash water from the car wash does not enter the storm drainage system and then into the river and lakes that we use and enjoy.

Professional Car Wash Coupon Program

The only way to ensure a water friendly car wash is to use a professional car wash. These car washes are equipped to properly treat wash water. Coupon programs work well to utilize this method. Call local car washes for availability of this program.

Current businesses participating in the car wash coupon program are:

Sudsy's Car Wash
1870 South Church Street

Car Wash Kits

Car Wash Kit

If a professional car wash is not an option for you the City of Murfreesboro rents a car wash kit on an availability basis. These kits include a pump which diverts wash water from entering a storm drain.

Techniques to Guard Against Water Pollution

When a carwash kit and professional carwash are not available, proper techniques can be used to help guard against water pollution. The location of proposed car washes can be very important in achieving an environmentally friendly site. Pervious surfaces (a surface that allows the passage of water) allow soapy water to be filtered. Biodegradable soaps are also effective in decreasing water pollution.

A parking lot which is adjacent to a stream or water body should never be used due to lack of possible mediation. An area which drains to any type of storm drain or conveyance which leads to a water source should also not be used. Any vehicle washing which discharges containenments to a drain is in direct violation of city ordinance 27½-13.
