Vice Mayor Bill Shacklett

ABOUT VICE MAYOR BILL SHACKLETT

Bill Shacklett was first elected to the Murfreesboro City Council in 2002 and served until 2006.  Shacklett was appointed then re-elected in 2014 to fill Toby Gilley’s vacated seat. Shacklett’s current term expires in 2024.  

As a Murfreesboro native, Shacklett was educated in Murfreesboro City Schools and graduated in the Central High School Class of 1969.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning and Political Science from Middle Tennessee State University and was commissioned in the Army Reserve through ROTC as a Military Intelligence Officer in 1973.  

Shacklett serves as a member of the Murfreesboro Airport Commission, the Murfreesboro Art Commission and as a Council Liaison on the Murfreesboro City School Board. He previously served on the Parks and Recreation Commission.  His community involvement includes the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, the Uncle Dave Macon Board of Directors and the American Red Cross for Rutherford and Cannon Counties Board of Directors (Past Chairman).  Shacklett has also served as Past-Chairman and Executive Board Member of Read to Succeed, Past-Chairman of the Main Street Revitalization Project Board of Directors and Past President of the Optimist Club.  For 45 years, he has passionately coached Little League baseball.    

Shacklett runs Shacklett’s Photography, the well-known family photography business on the Square with his sister, Gloria Christy.  He has been the recipient of the Business Ethics Award from the Better Business Bureau, “Business of the Year” by Main Street Revitalization Project (2007), and the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce “Business Person of the Year” (2008).
 
 Shackett and his wife, Rita Crenshaw Shacklett, have two daughters and two granddaughters.  He serves as an elder and Sunday School teacher at First Presbyterian Church in Murfreesboro.
