A native of Knoxville, TN, Maxwell was educated in public schools and graduated from Bearden High School in 1984. He attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville graduating with a degree in Business Management in 1988. Additionally, he was commissioned as an officer in the Tennessee Army National Guard via the UTK Army ROTC program. Maxwell married Murfreesboro native Claire Daniel in 1990 and they returned to Murfreesboro in 1998 after various career stops in Huntsville, AL & Columbia, SC where there four sons (Matthew, Mitchell, Manning & Michael) were born. Maxwell received his MBA from MTSU in 2007.
Maxwell’s previous community involvement includes the Murfreesboro Exchange Club; Murfreesboro Noon Rotary; Murfreesboro Parks & Recreation Youth Football Coach; President of the Riverdale Football Boosters; Chairman of the Republican County Republican Party and Secretary for the National Guard Insurance Trust of Tennessee.
Maxwell has spent 31 years in healthcare in multiple positions including physician sales; hospital sales; leading sales teams as a District & Regional Manager as well as a National Director of Sales Training. He is currently a Regional Marketer covering Tennessee & the Mid-Atlantic area.
Maxwell retired from the Tennessee Army National Guard in 2017 as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 plus years of service including deployments to Afghanistan & Iraq. His numerous military rewards include the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
The Maxwell’s attend First Baptist Church on East Main Street. Mrs. Maxwell also serves our community as a member of the Rutherford County School Board.
Austin Maxwell was elected to the Murfreesboro City Council in August 2022. Maxwell’s current terms expires in 2026.
