Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Engine 1, Ladder 1, and Rescue 2 are standing by at 811 Park Avenue where a four inch steel gas line was punctured Friday morning.

According to Police/Fire Dispatch, Atmos Energy was on site working when they accidentally hit the four inch steel line. MFRD units responded to the scene around 10:00 am.

At this time the 800 block of Park Avenue is closed to any through traffic. Gas crews are working to locate a shut off.

“We cannot just clamp the line as we normally would,” said Captain Blake Insell. “As soon as we find the shut off, we’ll work on getting the street back open.”

No businesses have been evacuated. More information will be released as it becomes available.

UPDATE (1:00 pm) from Captain Blake Insell:

Atmos Energy crews believe they have located the valve. It has been shut off. Crews are standing by as it can take up to 30-45 minutes to bleed out. Once crews receive confirmation that all is clear, the street will be opened up and units will clear the scene.
