Members of Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department's Special Operations Team arrived in Knoxville, Tennessee at the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency's East Office around 12:00 noon Sunday to await instructions for deployment to South Carolina.

MFRD Rescue Techs Captain/Shift Inspector Clay Walls, Captain Gary Hutchinson, Driver Jeremy McCullough, and Firefighters Mark Brewer, and Jeremy Spivey were the first team to arrive in the second wave of departments offering assistance.

According to team member Jeremy McCullough, they have signed in and are currently waiting for the other teams to arrive. "Around 2:00, we're going to have a safety briefing and then we will be escorted to South Carolina, somewhere near Columbia," McCullough said.

McCullough also said, "They supplied each member of our team with two cases of water and a case of MREs which is expected to last each person approximately four days."

The crew brought along a rescue apparatus, rescue boat, and inflatable raft to aid in water rescue operations following an intense amount of rainfall and flooding in the area.

It is unclear at this point how long the teams will be in South Carolina, but the consensus of the team is that they are eager to use their knowledge and skills to help where help is needed. "This is what we are trained to do," said McCullough, "and we are ready."

MFRD Fire Rescue Chief Mark Foulks commented, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to our neighbors in South Carolina. I am proud that our Special Ops personnel will be able to assist those in need there. I am confident that their capabilities and professionalism will be a great asset to the rescue efforts."

More information about the deployment will be released when available.
