Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Ladders 1, 2, and 9, Engine 1, and Rescues 2 and 9 responded to the main building of General Mills at 2533 General Mills Way just after 9:30 Wednesday morning.

Crews arrived on scene to discover smoke on the roof. All employees were evacuated prior to MFRD arrival.

Firefighters used a saw to cut through the roof deck and were able to locate the fire. They extinguished the fire, checked for hotspots and extensions, and have communicated that all fire is out at this time.

According to Acting Shift Commander Raymond Smith, it is possible that the fire started due to maintenance work on the roof. However, MFRD’s Fire Marshal’s Office is on scene to conduct a routine investigation.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
