[ARCHIVED] MFRD Responds to Truck vs. Pole Incident

Truck vs. Pole

Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Engine 4, Engine 1, and Rescue 7 responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer and a pole behind Big Lots (1209 NW Broad Street) on Brinkley Road just before 9:00 Thursday morning.

According to Acting Shift Commander Raymond Smith, a tractor trailer leaving Big Lots turned a sharp corner and caught the guide wires of an electrical pole. The pole was pulled onto the 53’ trailer with live wires exposed.

Engine 4 was able to get the driver of the truck out safely just before the contents of the trailer ignited. Crews on scene unhooked the truck from the trailer and drove it out of harm’s way.

Crews had to wait for Murfreesboro Electric Company to kill power to the lines before extinguishing the fire. Within five minutes, the power was shut off and crews were able to put the fire out.

No injuries were associated with this incident.
