[ARCHIVED] Outdoor Fire Safety Tips

In the city limits of Murfreesboro, you MUST call between 8-10 am daily to obtain permission to burn. M-F (615-893-1422) Weekends (615-849-2661).

In the county, you do not have to have a permit between May 15th and October 15th, but MFRD suggests you contact Rutherford County Dispatch as a courtesy to let them know you'll be burning. That number is 615-898-7770.

What to consider about outdoor fire safety:

Be aware when grilling on wooden decks and grass.

Keep water handy in case of fire.

Build campfires in open, level spots away from trees and overhanging branches.

Never leave a campfire unattended. Extinguish your fire completely!

Dispose of smoke materials properly.

Avoid parking vehicles in dry grass when the hot exhaust system could come into contact with dry vegetation.
