[ARCHIVED] MFRD is Requesting the Public's Assistance with a Fire Investigation

Person of Interest

Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Fire Marshal’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance with a fire investigation concerning the October 12 early morning fire at the basketball court near the clubhouse in Berkshire subdivision.

The fire was believed to have started around 10:30 the evening of October 11. However, the fire was not called in to Dispatch until shortly after 5:00 the morning of October 12. When MFRD crews arrived on scene, the “turtle tile” or plastic lining around the basketball court was on fire and had been smoldering since 10:30 the evening before.

Crews extinguished the fire, but approximately half of the lining was damaged. The Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate and the fire was determined to have been intentionally set.

The court damage is believed to be several thousand dollars. MFRD’s Fire Marshal’s Office would like the public’s assistance with the investigation.

Surveillance video captured at least one individual setting fire to the lining. This individual is the main person of interest in this case. There are also two other persons of interest, but their images were not available.

If you have any information regarding this case or if you can identify the persons of interest, please contact Crime Stoppers at 615-893-STOP (7867) Monday through Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm. Callers will remain anonymous and cash rewards of up to $1,000.00 are offered for information leading to the arrest or conviction of persons of interest.

You may also contact MFRD Fire Marshal’s Office direct at 615-849-2605.
