Fire at Chamberlain Drive

Murfreesboro Fire Rescue’s Fire Marshal placed two people under arrest in connection with the July 14th house fire at 208 Chamberlain Drive.

Ashley Barner, 28, Jetton Drive, was arrested Wednesday, July 24 and charged with arson and her grandmother, Peggy O’Neal, 80, Bradyville Pike, was arrested Monday, July 29 and charged with conspiracy to commit arson and insurance fraud.

According to lead investigator Clay Malone, Barner admitted to intentionally leaving a candle next to a doll clothed in yarn on a bedside table in a back bedroom of the home. When questioned, the woman implicated her grandmother’s involvement as well.

Both women are being held on $100,000 bond each at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
