Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Fire Prevention Division recently accepted a donation from the local Fred’s Department store.
The funds were raised by the store in September as part of their annual “Hero Hat” campaign. Fred’s stores chain wide collect money for local emergency teams on September 11 each year.
Fred’s chains donated over $327,615 at the conclusion of this year’s program. MFRD received a check for $169.30 from Fred’s corporate office, reflecting the amount the Murfreesboro store raised.
The donation came as a surprise to MFRD’s Chief Cumbey Gaines, “We were not aware of the campaign and received a letter in November with the donation check in it. The funds will benefit our Fire Prevention Division. We are very thankful for support from our local Fred’s store.”
Murfreesboro Fred’s Store Manager Mike Murray commented on the donation, “We are very appreciative of Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department and what they do for the citizens of our community on a daily basis.”
The Fire Prevention Fund is used to purchase equipment and other materials related to fire prevention and investigation.
