TEEN CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY

The Teen Citizens Police Academy (TCPA) is an educational and informative program modeled after the Murfreesboro Citizens Police Academy. TCPA is designed to give young people the opportunity to learn about the Murfreesboro Police Department and its operations. The teen academy also gives the department an opportunity to interact with teens within the community and solicit their feedback and ideas through discussion of relevant issues. Through this free six-week academy, students will acquire knowledge and understanding of the functions and responsibilities of individuals providing law enforcement services in the City of Murfreesboro.

WHAT WOULD I LEARN AS A PARTICIPANT?

Participants are instructed in a variety of topics that include the following:


     -Overview of Department, Rank and  
       Structure
     -Building Tour
     -Officer Safety
     -Traffic Investigations
     -Crisis Intervention Training (CIT)
     -Internet Crimes
     -Digital Evidence Recovery
     -Domestic Violence/Dating Safety
     -Emergency Communications
     -Narcotics Case Studies
     -Criminal Investigations
     -Forensic Science Lab
     -K9 Unit
     -Special Operations Unit

REQUIREMENTS

- High School students ages 15 - 17

- Students must live inside Murfreesboro city limits and/or attend a high school located within Murfreesboro city limits.

-Provide two adults references (teacher or guidance counselor preferred)

-Parental approval

-Available to attend all six-weeks



Meetings are held on Thursday evenings from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Murfreesboro Police Department.



HOW DO I JOIN THE ACADEMY?

The academy is a free 6-week course held twice a year in the Spring and Fall. Participants who wish to join can only sign up for one of the two sessions.


Register now as seating is limited and reserved for the first 20 applicants.




Participants are required to fill out a membership application. Applications can be found below, or contact Sgt. Amy Denton for an application. 




The Murfreesboro Police Teen Citizens Police Academy shall not deny attendance to any individual based on race, cred, color, religion, sex, national origin or sexual preference.
