[ARCHIVED] North Greenway Phase 2, Free Tax Prep, Hazardous Waste Collection and more ‘In the City’

The newest section of the Murfreesboro Greenway was unveiled by partners of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation. Watch this ribbon cutting ceremony and other stories in the March edition of “In the City.”  

 

You will be proud of the work of two John Pittard Elementary students who were applauded for their design in measuring the effects of concussions sustained by football players. Take advantage of free tax preparation offered by the VITA program of United Way through April 13th and gear up for Household Hazardous Waste Collection on the first Saturday in April.   • Murfreesboro Parks & Recreation and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers celebrated the completion of Phase 2 of the North Murfreesboro Greenway at the Central Valley Trailhead. The expansion extends a total of three miles with asphalt that parallels the long-established horse trail on Corps property https://youtu.be/BzRDG96ZnbI 
  • Time to clean out the garage and household with materials that should not be tossed into trash collection bins. The Annual Hazardous Waste Collection is April 1, 8 a.m.-Noon at the City Mulching Facility, 4765 Florence Road.   • Free tax preparation is available through the United Way VITA Tax Prep Program at Patterson Park Community Center and other locations. Michael Linn White reports on the free resource for those who qualify, part of United Way’s goal of improving financial stability in the community.

  • Two John Pittard Elementary students presented their amazing design to detect football concussions at a statewide STEM Conference in Nashville. Watch as Faith and Mayah explain their science project designed so coaches can study the impact of hits on a scale of 1 to 10.   • Multimedia Producer Steve Burris visits the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department to learn more about the lifesaving benefits of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated Eternal Defibrillator (AED).   • Plus, PAWS Pet of the Month, changes in the City Development Services Division, and Murfreesboro firefighters Josh Walker and Daniel Carter honored with STARS Awards.
