[ARCHIVED] Discarded Cigarette to Blame for Cross Court Apartments Laundry Room Fire

Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Districts 1 and 8 responded to a fire call at 550 Crossway Drive (Cross Court Apartments) just before 1:00 Thursday morning.

Upon arrival, crews discovered light smoke coming from the complex’s laundry room area, which is located in the rear corner of an occupied apartment building.

Crews entered the laundry room and located the fire in a trash can. They quickly extinguished the fire and checked for any other hotspots.

According to Captain Jamie Bigelow, the fire appears to have started as the result of a discarded cigarette. The estimated damage to the laundry room was about $1000.

No other units in the building were affected and no residents had to be evacuated.

MFRD crews released the scene back to property management.
