Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Assistant Fire Marshal Carl Peas, who also serves as Child Safety Seat Coordinator, says Thursday’s free car seat check was a great success.

The event, hosted by MFRD, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Safe Kids Cumberland Valley, and Kohl’s, was held at Fire Station 9 located at 802 Cason Lane.

According to Peas, technicians inspected and/or installed a total 19 car and booster seats during the two-hour check.

“At least 17 of the seats we checked had some type of error, ranging in severity,” said Peas. “The important thing is those seats are now secure and parents and caregivers are educated on the proper and safe installation techniques.”

Murfreesboro’s Team 9-1-1 was also at the event distributing educational literature on when and when not to call 9-1-1, providing dispatchers with helpful information when reporting an emergency, and other important tips for callers.

If you missed out on this free car seat check, there are other opportunities to have your child’s seat inspected or installed. MFRD, Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services, and Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office will host another free car seat check on Saturday, October 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Acceptance Insurance located at 273 North Lowry Street in Smyrna, TN.
