MFRD’s Fire Marshal’s Office was back on scene Tuesday morning at 207 Richardson Avenue investigating the cause of a fire which displaced five adults and nine children Monday night.

“We know the fire started in the front room of 207A which was a living room,” said Assistant Fire Marshal Michael Bartlett. “The cause is still undetermined at this time.”

Numerous animals were rescued from the home including a hedgehog, hamster, several cats, and five dogs.

On Monday night, at least five cats were unaccounted for. “This morning we learned that three of the cats perished in the fire,” said Bartlett, “but a total of eight cats made it to safety.”

Four Pitbulls and one Jack Russell Terrier are currently staying with Rutherford County PAWS.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
