Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Engine 4, Ladder 6, and District 7 responded to a fire at a home located at 1018 Lawndale Drive around 12:30 Monday afternoon.

When crews arrived on scene, they discovered light smoke coming from the outside of the structure.

Upon further inspection, crews discovered a fire in the HVAC unit, which quickly spread to the ductwork underneath the house. According to Shift Commander Tim Swann, crews were able to get a quick knockdown on the fire. Crews were also able to save the family pet, a cat named “Seymour.”

“The home received very minor fire damage, but will have smoke damage throughout,” said Swann. Crews are still on scene ventilating the structure.

MFRD’s Fire Marshal’s Office is also on scene conducting a routine investigation.

The meter to the home was pulled, causing at least two residents to be displaced. American Red Cross assistance was offered, but declined. No injuries were associated with this incident.
