Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s District 2 and Ladder 1 responded to 2441 South Church Street just after 2:30 Monday afternoon for a substance spilling from the back of a flatbed truck.

According to Acting Shift Commander Tony Lehew, the substance was Roundup, which is a commonly used weed-killer. “Approximately 75 gallons of Roundup spilled onto a 100’ by 30’ section of the road,” said Lehew.

The City’s Environmental Engineer, Sam Huddleston, is en route. The Street Department applied oil dry to keep it from further spreading.

The northbound lanes on South Church Street just before I-24 have been reduced to one lane.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
